mentalhealthawarenessweek Why do I train so much? I should be busy being a rockstar right?⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ll be honest with ya there’s a lot of us going through some shit mentally, some of us take drugs or even alcohol to escape the challenges of life. I find my escapism in exercise. Yes I’m lucky it’s exercises & of course exercise, undoubtedly has a positive impact on my body. One thing I have learnt is that you can’t escape forever, no matter how many dumbbells you pick up or how many squats you do to create that perfectly shaped 🍑 which I love by the way so keep it up🤗 YOU CAN NOT ESCAPE FOREVER. My escapism is like putting a plaster on a burst water mains. If you’ve got this far your probably thinking there’s gonna be some cheesy conclusion to this, there isn’t. I don’t have the answers, I’m still learning, I’m still fighting, I’m acknowledging my feelings & I’m no longer scared of them. I’m not here for the ‘Likes’ I don’t need em I’m rich in life already. But the thought of some poor sod thinking that they’re alone in all of this make me sad. So I hope you read this & find comfort in the fact that you are not alone.⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

mentalhealthawarenessweek Even if you’re not one of the millions of people living with depression, there’s a lesson to remember here: like the poet Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi said, your thoughts are like house guests — you can make room for them, but don’t let them run the show.

mentalhealthawarenessweek Achieving work life balance is not impossible. It's just different for everybody and changes at different stages of life. For example, the balance needed as a single, unattached man/woman is different from that needed as a parent or a newlywed. Just as it is different when pursuing a degree.

To get the balance you need:

ℹ️Do an inventory to identify the key areas of your life.

ℹ️Determine your priorities

ℹ️Schedule time off for yourself and for self-care; find time every day, every week to recharge or take a vacation when if you can afford one. This could be a few seconds to just take deep breaths or even just take a short walk.

ℹ️Separate time for each key area and be as strict as possible about it. That is, don’t bring work home with you when not needed, don’t be online during family time etc.

ℹ️Keep the right mental attitudes.

ℹ️Read up more as articles abound on this topic to help you figure out what is balance for you and how to achieve it

ℹ️Stay flexible. Realize that, your work life balance needs are subject to change due to life occurrences and adjust accordingly.

ℹ️Talk with an experienced practitioner if necessary.
In all, realize that, your physical, mental, psychological and emotional wellbeing are paramount to giving your best to every area of your life and never forget to take care of you.
.

When last did you take a vacation?

After a few hours of 🛍 and 🚶on the Santa Monica Pier we decided to visit Marilyn Monroe’s 🏡 . If your the neighbor thanks for being so cheerful and outgoing.
Keeping it 👱‍♀️ and since we were in Brentwood we then went to Nichole Brown Simpson’s Condo before ending our adventure @ Urth Cafe in the LA Arts District. Remember to be kind to everyone, you don’t know what they’re going thru.

mentalhealthawarenessweek i don’t look like myself without falsies!! 😖 i do love this liquid lip though - @katvondbeauty in the shade ‘lolita’ never lets me down 🤗 how are you all today? i really need to sort my sleeping pattern out, i’m embarrassed to say this but i fell asleep at 7am last night/this morning, and woke up at 3pm today. 😐 my new meds are messing with my head! i definitely feel way less spaced out and numb since switching back to fluoxetine though - sertraline definitely wasn’t for me! 🙅🏻‍♀️ the combination of taking propranolol and fluoxetine together daily is working a lot better for my anxiety too, so i’m feeling kinda positive! 💃 how’s your mental health atm? have you made any positive changes? 💕 lemme know down in the comments 👇🏻👇🏻

mentalhealthawarenessweek “I noticed early on he struggled with depression. I did too, so that’s why we connected so well. Like misfits that found each other. I remember pulling up to the house seeing his car there, he was supposed to be at work. I went in through the mud room and the dog met us, he didn’t want me to come in. Elliot Smith’s Pitseleh was playing. I saw him, he’d been gone a few hours. At that point everything happened really fast but also really slow. I remember trying to nurse my daughter, but was shaking too badly, the EMT’s tried to find something in the fridge she could eat.

I never spent another night in that house. My brother and sister in law took me in. I don’t know what I would have done without them. My brother is my hero. The grief was agonizing. I started to drink to cope. It got so bad they did an intervention. I went to an inpatient treatment center in Tempe for dual diagnosis therapy. It was transformative.

I haven’t had a drink since the day I went to treatment, Feb of 2016. When you go through something like this I truly believe that it’s the strength of the community around you and sharing your story, that helps you begin to heal.” - Victoria

Victoria, 43, Mom, Widow, former therapist, suicide survivor and breast cancer survivor. SURVIVOR. This session broke me. It was my reminder that this space is for BOTH people in the conversation to feel safe. She was sharing her trauma with me, the suicide of her other half, and it brought ALL of my fears to the surface unexpectedly. And because of that space, I felt safe enough to share them with her. This woman experienced BLOW after BLOW. Struggle of chronic illness in a partner, undiagnosed postpartum depression, his suicide, alcoholism, then breast cancer. Survived ALL and if you swipe, she has found her smile again. I sat there, stunned. Sobs erupted out that I couldn’t stop. I wanted to pick her brain and ask her questions. But immediately felt badly, not wanting to trigger her. “NO - if I can go through all this to help someone else? That also helps ME heal”. YES. It’s why we are ALL here. To help each other heal. Thank you Victoria for being a Face, your story touched me to my core.

mentalhealthawarenessweek Depression. That word we throw around so easily nowadays. That word we use to describe anything from a bad day to an overwhelming inability to live life. But as anyone with depression knows, it is much more than any one word can describe.
It slowly takes over a person’s life to the point where they forget how it all began. It is insidious, creeping
up and building up over time. Little, unnoticeable things change at first, leading to bigger changes. Then, as
if out of the blue, that famous black cloud is overhead.

The effort to do the small things is huge. The pressure to do anything is even bigger. People always say
you should talk to someone, tell someone, but how do you put words on something so hard to even understand yourself? How do you explain to someone that you want to live your life but also you don’t
know how you can? How do you explain that this no longer feels like a choice, that it controls you not the
other way around?

Hope is one of those things that disappears with depression, so for now we will hope for you until you find that hope again for yourself.

Join us this Friday for deep meaningful conversations via http://bit.ly/stilt-ng

mentalhealthawarenessweek Codependent. If any word captures the relationship between phone and user, it’s that one. And not just because we depend on our phones and our phones depend on us. Too often our “codependence” is an unhealthy and unbalanced relationship with a sleek, seductive sliver of technology. The tell-tale signs: cramps in our “texting thumbs”; sleep lost to round-the-clock games; conversations with friends and partners that go nowhere because our eyes—and attention—are plugged in elsewhere.
With tech addiction, as with all kinds of dysfunctional relationships, identifying the problem doesn’t automatically make it better. The American Psychological Association’s 2017 Stress in America report, which surveyed over 3,500 American adults, revealed that 65% believe they should periodically unplug or do a digital detox to improve their mental health. However, only 18% report actually doing so.
Phone addiction is real.
Let's make the healthy choice.

mentalhealthawarenessweek Did you know that if you purchase this print 50% of sales go to @mindcharity . I created this earlier in the year & decided to make it into a print to support #mentalhealthawarenessweek . So far I have just under £20 to donate! How awesome is that? - It would be great if I could get to £50 by the end of the year :) If you know anyone who is going through a tough time and needs a little pick me up send them some love & remind them how strong they are x

mentalhealthawarenessweek I had a mental health day yesterday. I stayed on the lounge ALL DAY watching countless episodes of Community and eating snacks. Fuck I needed it. After smashing out back to back weddings, followed by back to back prac exams, I was totally drained, physically exhausted and emotionally crippled. Nothing takes it outta ya like emotional brides followed by emotional fake counselling patients!! 🥴😐
•
•
And today I am like a whole new woman! I have gotten so much work down.. stuff that has been on my to-do list for MONTHS. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I’m a huge advocate for mental heath days. Recharge, reset and look after yourself, cause ain’t no one else gonna do it for you!! (And if your boss tells you “no, you can’t have a mental health day”, then send em my way for a good, swift baton to the knee caps. 😜) So what’s your go-to self care activities?

I am crazy in love with this shirt by @thenewroseclub and when the euro to aud exchange rate isn’t so fucking horrific, I’m gonna buy 12 of em! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

mentalhealthawarenessweek I remember GCSE results day like it was yesterday ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Some people did worse than me⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Some people did WAY better than me ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I remember the stress/ pressure/ anxiety of the day⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It’s all totally normal and natural but please remember that it’s just another day in our journeys⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I have had a few messages the past few days about how today will go, how parents feel they need to react, how to cope with any bad news⁣⁣
⁣⁣
My answer.... everything will be okay⁣. That being said let’s care for anyone who is having a bad day because it doesn’t always feel that all will be okay and we need to take into account the time and work that has been put into the opening of these results⁣
⁣
Although let’s remember that everything really will be okay⁣
⁣⁣
Worst case is a re-sit ... and most of us have had to re-sit something along the way. It shows determination⁣
⁣⁣
Good luck today to everyone getting their results. Please message me if anyone feels overwhelmed about it or just wants a chat. Jo xx

mentalhealthawarenessweek Depression & Anxiety. Such taboo topics in the Philippines that are actually relevant mental health issues that need to be addressed. I’m managing both and it’s not merely “sumpong” or “praning” as most people think. IT’S EFFIN’ REAL. The Boogieman does exist in one’s head that only someone who experienced it or a therapist/psychiatrist will comprehend. 😧
.
I’ve spoken about these monsters in Tagalog in my latest YouTube videos with a comedic touch. Not because I don’t take this topic seriously but because I want to catch the Pinoy audience’s attention hoping to eradicate the stigma and make Pinoys see that it’s okay to have mental health issues. That it doesn’t make you “crazy” for having them, that there are ways to get through it. And one step is talking about it openly to elicit emotional support from loved ones or even kind strangers that still exist. ☝🏼
.
Huwag balewalain at ikahiya ang depression & anxiety. It’s okay not to be okay all the time. It’s okay to seek support. And it’s okay if you feel that way. Someone understands. And if you just sit with the discomfort, hold on to faith, share your inner struggle to someone who is willing to listen, it does get better. I promise. ♥️ #mentalhealthforfilipinos #mentalhealthissoreal . 📸 by @panproductions_la

mentalhealthawarenessweek Break the Stigma #breakthestigma
#endthestigma #agapparel85 #strengthofalion
Most people who live with mental illness have, at some point, been blamed for their condition. They’ve been called names. Their symptoms have been referred to as “a phase” or something they can control “if they only tried.” They have been illegally discriminated against, with no justice. This is the unwieldy power that stigma holds.

Stigma causes people to feel ashamed for something that is out of their control. Worst of all, stigma prevents people from seeking the help they need. For a group of people who already carry such a heavy burden, stigma is an unacceptable addition to their pain. And while stigma has reduced in recent years, the pace of progress has not been quick enough.

All of us in the mental health community need to raise our voices against stigma. Every day, in every possible way, we need to stand up to stigma.

mentalhealthawarenessweek Yes to all 11 of these points. I’m off on my holidays tomorrow and do I feel 100% comfortable in my body right now? No! I’m on some new medication for my skin which is predominately given to diabetics so my sugar levels and cravings have been all over the place 😩 I don’t look or feel my usual self but you know what...
I’m not going to beat myself up about this. My body is doing the best it can while trying to stabilise itself on this medication and I am not defined by my size or shape of my 🍑. These 11 points are good things to say to ourselves and I’ll be sure to be looking back at this post when I’m on the beach 🏖 #bodyconfidence #morethanenough #ihavefatimnotfat

mentalhealthawarenessweek From a young age, we seek approval from those important in our lives, and whose love and support we desire. A kind word of encouragement, or a sign of disapproval, can have a profound impact on us. But ultimately what matters is that you realize that you’re living for an audience of one, because approval is a lover who will always break your heart. So instead of seeking people’s approval seek integrity, compassion, and humility. •

mentalhealthawarenessweek Hey beautiful people!

Happy #HumpDay, here’s my quote of the day!

Today it takes the form of some questions we should all ask ourselves on a daily basis... Can you imagine what a wonderful world we’d live in if everyone did the same?

Together we can #bethechange we want to see in the world!

Please remember if you, or anyone you know is struggling with anything; I run a peer to peer support group, which can be found on Facebook with this link:

Have a great day!

Peace, love and positive vibes,

mentalhealthawarenessweek Our ambassador @keepingcaileycalm rocking our comfy END THE STIGMA. hoodie!
🖤🖤
The stigma surrounding mental illness ends when we actively decide to speak our truth. When I was younger, and first started experiencing panic attacks, no one was talking about mental illness. I had no idea what was wrong with me. I had no terminology to articulate what was happening inside my brain and nobody to look to for guidance. I remember genuinely believing I was going crazy. I was convinced that no one else experienced this. Surely if they had, they’d be talking about it. And then I started educating myself on mental illness. I listened intently to people’s personal stories on YouTube. I watched TedTalks. And I started to connect the dots. I saw myself in these people. I got to put a name to what I was experiencing and this allowed me to get the help I needed.
.
Still, my life has been a constant battle against mental illness, against feeling alone, and against fearing that others will view me as weak; but the silver lining is my ability to speak about it. Silence only breeds more silence and that’s the last thing we need. I haven’t been able to shut up about mental illness since I understood what it was because I refuse to contribute to the stigma. I haven’t always been comfortable talking about these things. In fact, I used to be terrified to, but I know it changes lives. So I’ve forced myself to adjust. I know that one personal story can help someone recognize how incredibly not alone they are. It can help them get the help they need. It can even save their life. So, fuck the stigma and be exactly who you are. Your voice can only help. Here to talk, as always, if anyone needs it.🧠🖤

mentalhealthawarenessweek I can unequivocally tell you that since I began paying attention to — and indeed acting on Universal signs — many more have occurred, which have assisted in rather a blessed and fun time for me in recent months. 💫🧔🏽💫
.
Whether or not you believe in the concept of ‘signs from the Universe’, this is still worth reading. The point remains that the flow of life presents us with events at times that many would call ‘coincidence’. I don’t believe in coincidence; I believe in the Law of Attraction, and thus whatever frequency we’re vibing at, we attract more energy of the same frequency. 💓🧠

You can read the rest of this in my new blog if you like... 🤓
