healthychoice On big days when I will be out of the house all day I pack a full array of meals and snacks to sustain me throughout the day. It's highly unlikely I will be able to finish it all but I generally pack a bit more than I need incase I get held up or to ensure I get enough protein throughout the day. Some days are better than others and I would love to say I am always this organised but reality is, I am not a morning person and so it's not always as together as today! Every day is different but I am trying to prioritize good nutrition and exercise as part of my lifestyle and for the most part I think it's working! I feel great, my skin is clearer and overall I like what I am putting into my body. My body doesn't always agree with some foods and this can be challenging, navigating food intolerances is a matter of trial and error, again some days are better than others! I keep surprising myself with what I find I am capable of these days. People ask where I find the time to fit so much into my day but I have found the more I prioritize what I need to live life well the more energy I have for everything else. My word for this year was self-care and I am really starting to embody this in more of my every day! It really is exhilarating! The future is looking brighter and brighter everyday!

Shrimp Fajitas 🍤 ⠀

Ingredients⠀
1 pound medium shrimp peeled and deveined⠀
2 tablespoons lime juice⠀
3 teaspoons chili powder⠀
2 teaspoons cumin⠀
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika⠀
1 teaspoon kosher salt⠀
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper⠀
2 tablespoons olive oil divided⠀
1 red bell pepper thinly sliced⠀
1 yellow bell pepper thinly sliced⠀
1 medium onion thinly sliced⠀
2 cloves garlic minced⠀
¼ cup chopped cilantro⠀
Tortillas for serving⠀
Optional Toppings: fresh lime juice, avocado slices, chopped cilantro, pico de gallo, sour cream, cabbage or lettuce⠀
Instructions⠀
Place the shrimp in a large bowl and squeeze the lime juice over the shrimp.⠀
In a small bowl, combine the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and cayenne pepper.⠀
Sprinkle half of the spice mixture over the shrimp and stir until the shrimp are well coated.⠀
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until shrimp are pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and place on a clean plate.⠀
Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the hot pan. Stir in peppers and onion and add the remaining fajita seasoning. Sauté for 3 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté for 2 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.⠀
⠀
Turn the heat to low and add the shrimp back into the pan with the vegetables and stir until shrimp is heated through, about 1 minute. Stir in the cilantro.⠀
Serve warm in tortillas with desired toppings.

The theme this year @nutritionaustralia is focusing on ‘embracing your veg waste’ 🥕🍃. Such as keeping the skins on veggies, freezing veg for another day that might be going off and use them in a soups or stews 🍲 .

Here are some veg #mealinspiration ideas that our @daley_nutrition Nutritionists & Dietitians like to eat on a regular basis.

1. 🥕Carrot sticks for morning snack. No need to peel them, just a wash will do.
2.🍴Add 2-3 veg into lunch, salads are a great opportunity to add your favourite veg.
3. 🍃Air friers are great for making kale chips.  They add a nice crunch to the afternoon.
4. 🍔Homemade bean burgers made with black beans, bread crumps, egg & herbs and spices are a good meat replacement. Add some fresh lettuce & tomato, also some air fried potato chips (skin on).
5. 🍦 Finish the day with some green ice-cream the recipe for this is in one of our previous insta posts.

Having experienced severe adrenal fatigue and their complete flatline, let us tell you that it is not somewhere you want to go or be. My (Lexi) adrenal glands were so maxed out from all that I was up against from viral overload, death of a loved one, a high-stress job, prescription meds, as well as eating the wrong foods and going too long without eating.  They were so maxed out that they ended up getting confused and having difficulty figuring out how to stop firing. Adrenaline was firing off at all kinds of odd hours and continuously coursing through my blood contributing to the inability to sleep and causing me to tremble and shake, among other things. Scary stuff right?! I am not the only one who is up against unknown viral conditions and stressful triggers. Most of us are walking around with adrenal fatigue and we don’t even know it. That was definitely me. I look back and can now pin point all of the signs and symptoms my body was giving me, for years, to let me know that my adrenals needed care. If only I had known then what I know now.

The downfall of Jimmy’s adrenals began with years of working a high stress job, lack of sleep, excessive exercise, caffeine consumption and also poor food and lifestyle choices. His adrenals were already on their way to a crash course, then came the straw that broke the adrenals back. When I fell ill, all of the above was compounded by the fear of the unknown of my illness and witnessing my suffering. Almost every night I would wake him in a panic, shaking him out of a dead sleep to sometimes bring me to the ER or otherwise comfort me and keep me company in the wee hours of the night until I was finally able to drift off into a sleep for just a couple of hours. He would then have to go work (an intense job) on little to no sleep and had the concern for my health and well-being always lurking in the shadows. Although stronger than mine, his adrenals weren’t too far behind.

5 years ago I changed to @nairnsoatcakes with choc chip and at 45 kcals per biscuit and 0.8g saturated fat my waistline loves them!

I do still occasionally have the naughty option (everything in moderation, remember) but the majority of the time you’ll see me dunking a Nairn’s oat biscuit in my cuppa ☕️ 🍪. .

healthychoice Et voilà la dernière étape et surtout le retour à une alimentation normale. Du moins dans la mesure du possible. Et après on adapte. 
Elle m’a conseillé de continuer à mixer certains produits si ça ne passe pas. 
Je fais un point également sur les “ interdits “. ⛔️ Pendant 6 mois, pas d’alcool, pas de gazeux. 🍺Après ça, aucune interdiction, juste occasionnellement. Je compte de toute façon m’en passer.

Levar ao forno, a 200C, uma batata doce aos cubos, 1/2 abóbora, 1 cebola e couve flor e temperar com azeite, sal, paprika e pimenta preta.
Depois dos legumes estarem cozinhados, colocar numa panela e cobri-los com água a ferver. Mal a água absorva o sabor, triturar com uma varinha mágica e está pronta a devorar.

Earlier this week, I saw a post on someone’s page listing the 5 foods you need to cut out of your diet. To my dismay, this individual listed common food items which only served to perpetuate the many misconceptions in nutrition. 😡 A quick Google search also yielded a plethora of blog posts telling me all the foods I couldn’t eat for fat loss and for health. ⁣

So naturally, I took it upon myself to create my own list. These are foods you should definitely, definitely steer clear of. Also add to this anything that might make you feel lethargic or anything that doesn’t sit well in your stomach. ⁣

As for everything else - added sugars, artificial sweeteners, and the like - moderate doses are actually perfectly fine in the context of an otherwise nutrient-dense diet. Demonizing foods does more harm than good, and your mental peace and quality of life are far more important than splitting hairs over variables that matter very little in the grand scheme of things. 🙌⁣

⏳Wait 20 minutes. Stay busy & distracted. Most times we are just bored…our instinct is to eat because it's enjoyable & will fill the time. Instead of heading to the kitchen, call a friend, go for a walk, read a book, spend time w/ family, etc.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
