Reminder Artist Talk by chi too TODAY - 4pm Sat 25th May at KOTA-K studio in Pekan Tanjung Aru. Free event. All invited, please come. •
chi too (b. 1981, Kuala Lumpur) is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist whose educational background is in Mass Communication and Sound Engineering. His practice demonstrates confident exploration of humour, satire, and visual poetics. It is at times difficult to say exactly what he does as an artist, largely because his artworks touch on a large spectrum of themes and issues. His practice vacillates between the high-minded and the frivolous, the social and the personal, the transparent and the esoteric.
His experimental music, performances and playful self-organised public art projects such as Main Dengan Rakyat, Everything’s Gonna Be Alright, and Lepark display an interest to engage with urban spaces and audiences that form part of his complex multifaceted approach to practice. chi too was also a member of the disbanded art collective The Best Art Show in the Univers. Since then, he has participated in various exhibitions and performance events in Malaysia and abroad.
He has held four solo exhibitions to date: Like Someone In Love, Lostgens' Contemporary Art Space, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2015); The Artist chi too Looks at Artworks as He Contemplates the State of the Nation’s Institutions a.k.a. How Can You Be Sure, Art Row @ Publika, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2013); State of Doubt: Seven Actions Towards Dilemma, Art Lab AKIBA, Tokyo, Japan (2012); and Longing, Black Box, MAP @ Publika, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2011). He has participated in OPEN GATE 2017, Sapporo International Art Festival, Japan, OPEN GATE 2016, Aichi Triennale, Japan, and OPEN GATE 2015, Hin Bus Art Depot, Penang, Malaysia. His work, Longing #11 a.k.a Instructions for Longing was also included in the 2013 Singapore Biennale exhibition If the World Changed. He became a Nippon Foundation Asian Public Intellectual (API) fellow in 2011. Most recently, he was an artist-in-residence at NTU Centre for Contemporary Art (NTU CCA) Singapore in 2017.
In his free time, chi too serves refreshing beverages and works in the arts, and news and documentary.

Second Day of Mami Ita’s Tapai Workshop draws to a close this morning. Her 4 apt pupils proudly tied up the Sonson over their jars and wrote the date. Congrats to Jesica, Kei, Duncan and Sien! They were given their ‘Certificate Tajau’ at the end, which they get to bring home. The smiles on their faces and Mami Ita’s say it all. We hope you’ll have fun breaking out the Tapai in 2 weeks time!
Big thank you to Mami Ita and @egn.ism . What a wonderful way to learn something new!

The Tapai Workshop is now underway! Mami Ita walks her students through the steps. After the hardwork, Aramaiti session starts at 4:30pm! Kota-K invites friends of Kota-K to join us here. Mami Ita has prepared one tajau for tasting. Donations welcome and all proceeds go to Mami Ita.
It’s a Vintage Saturday afternoon at Kota-K! Playing my dad’s 51-year-old records on Kota-K Studio’s ‘new’ old acquisition, a turntable! Damn, we’re proper hipsters now😆😆😆. You could see the beams on I-Lann and Joe’s faces. And it brings back memories of my late dad as he used to put wee ol’ me onto the tops of his feet to teach me to dance. 🌸🌺🌸💕❤️
