Painted Pops using all @joico!
Freeplay for my lightener, lumishine for that gloss ✨
Something to think about! We can all apply our products but how often are you thinking about WHY you’re doing what you’re doing?
Why am I placing this here? Where is this going to lay when it’s done and dry?
Why am I mixing this developer?
Why am I formulating this? What is it going to do? Where am I starting at and where do I need go?
It may sound silly but everything you do should have a why. And when you really start to think about everything you’re doing, you reallllly start learn and grow👌🏼 These are some of the things I love to talk about in my classes! Here’s where you can join me⬇️
San Diego 8/11
Portland, Oregon 8/18
Tag a friend and let me know if that’s you’re area!🙌🏼

Hair for daaaaays! Swipe to see me paint and once more from our first session.
Started all virgin, level 5 and two, 4 hour sessions (mostly because of how long and thick her hair is!)
First session we focused the brightness around her face a little throughout and the second session we went much heavier all throughout!
Timing breakdown ⏱:
- 30 min for cut
- 1 hr to 1.5 hrs painting
- process 30-45 minutes
- 30 to 40 min Shampoo, tone, condition
- 45 min blow dry and style
This amount of hair is no joke but sooo worth it 😍
Paint: @joico freeplay
🎙 SOUND ON!!🎙
(First ever voice over so cut me some slack😂😅) But I hope you guys find it useful.
Talking about what I like to do for placement around the hairline. I get asked a lot “Where do I go when I get to the front?” The answer is right in front of you. And it’s VERY simple! Follow what the hairline is showing you.
Understanding where you’re going and WHY is a game changer my friends.
Let me know if you want more videos like this! And if so, what would you like to see?

Let’s talk texture:
My girl has some thick, coaaarse hair! She’s about a natural level 7 so you would think she’d be the ideal candidate for painting... But her texture makes it difficult to lift sometimes so I’ve learned that to achieve our ideal brightness, foiling is the way to go on her👌🏼
This last appointment I heavily sliced every section that was in a foil.
If I make her highlights too baby fine, it just doesn’t show up and can end up looking TOO blended. Good for certain situations, but we wanted bold and bright so slices were the way to go.
SOOO just remember how important texture plays into your final outcome and choosing which technique is going to be right for your client.
Swipe to see that melt at the bowl😍
Melted with @wellaeducation 8/0 & 8/81 into 10/0 on her ends.

📽📽Maximum coverage and brightness? Slice that sh**!! Especially in your back areas where you have more ground to cover!
Where she was already more blonde around her face I did a combo of baby weaves and slices. The remaining old blonde ends I tipped out with a lower volume to bump them up a bit.
What NOT to do? Try out a new color for her root smudge and accidentally turn those freshly platinum roots, pink 🙃 While I HIGHLY encourage stepping out of your comfort zone, make sure you understand your colorline before just slapping it on there lollllll
Thankfully I was able to tweak it and make it right but to say I was sweating bullets was an understatement. Take those mistakes and learn from them! Only way to grow and be better ✌🏼
