A swarm of fireflies on a warm summer night will capture the fascination of children and adults alike. There are over 136 species of fireflies, each with their own unique pattern of flashes. Their populations are dwindling across North America and even globally, and although researchers aren't certainly what exactly is causing this there's a few factors that are likely culprits. Pesticides, habitat loss, and other factors could be the cause, but even lights from human development could be affecting their mating rituals either confusing the bugs or making it more difficult for them to stand out against the night sky.

Drove 10 hours to Badlands National Park in South Dakota and was greeted with this amazing sunset shortly after arriving. Gotta love it when strangers model for you without even asking. #HifromSD#badlandsnationalpark
Framing the beauty of Georges Island. This National Historic Site is the location of Fort Charlotte, named after Great Britain's King George's wife Charlotte. You'll get the best view of this island from the Halifax Seaport Farmer's Market when you @VisitNovaScotia.

Yesterday I was invited to photograph a nesting hummingbird at an acquaintance's cottage. I wasn't about to turn down that invitation. This was a rather challenging photo to capture. I was standing on a ladder with my arms fully extended so that I could be as close to eye level as possible. In order to maximize depth of field I decided to focus stack the shot. I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with my @getolympus E-M1X and the 300mm f/4 lens. It's not every camera that can create a tack sharp image under these circumstances.
