When our colleague Deb Brodeur was nominated as a finalist for our global Apple Award – the top employee recognition at ISS – she was invited to Istanbul, Turkey, for the 2019 Global Leadership Conference. On the final night at an award ceremony, she was celebrated as the winner. “When my name was called I don’t think I even heard it,” she said. “I saw our CEO, Jeff, say congratulations to me and I was then beyond shocked. I was so blessed to be on this trip of a lifetime. I will treasure the global Apple Award and these memories. I have had a strong work ethic my entire life (thanks, Dad) and love what I do and it’s certainly showed to the client. That is what I am so proud of!”

Matthew Yuen and Francisco Magdaraog from the US placed third at the 2019 International Culinary Competition in Copenhagen. They both work at Riot Games in Los Angeles. Passionate about how food is the connective tissue between cultures, this team is focused on creating plant-based menus and dishes that spark emotions in the diner. They created a main course of red mullet, carrot puree and shellfish with a quinoa pilaf and basil oil. For dessert, they served the judges chocolate cake, dark chocolate mousse with a mango & raspberry coulis, trail mix crumble, a banana caramel custard and coral tuile. #ISSworld#foodservice#catering

At this year’s ISS International Culinary Competition in Copenhagen, Elliott Faulkner and Peter Lambie from the United Kingdom won second place by bringing current food trends and innovation to the live cook-off. Their main dish consisted of smoked red mullet with langoustine bisque, butter-poached razor clams, green beans, mung beans, quinoa with caramelized shallots and baby carrots. Their dessert was basil-macerated mango, basil Chantilly, raspberry texture, granola, dark chocolate aero with a macadamia crunch and white chocolate.

Head Chef Mehmet Seyidoglu and Pastry Chef Ümit Turkdogan from Istanbul demonstrated the richness of modern Turkish cuisine at this year’s ISS International Culinary Competition in Copenhagen, enhancing traditional dishes with modern techniques. They cooked a main course of fresh basil red mullet, langoustine and a razor clam combination. For dessert, they made Lokma (deep-fried dough balls, soaked in sugar syrup) with chocolate.
