That’s Progress (DOA) :: 30x48” :: Acrylic, paper, and ink on canvas :: Another one of the new pieces in my new body of work titled “Outsiders” that will show at @thefridgedc In November (details coming!!). This work is the mesh of indigenous stereotype and indigenous identity through the use of reappropriated comic book images of Indigenous or Indigenous-like images intersected with lyrics from Punk music that mean something to me and have been part of the influence of punk-rock music in my own life. This work is incredibly personal as it holds the identity questions of my youth coupled with stereotype and the use of these musical lyrics as the perfect intersection of these things to me as both a citizen of my tribal community and a citizen of America. The duality of that existence is difficult to articulate and help people understand that we can be inherently Indigenous while also loving the same music, films, books, etc. and yet these lyrics are incredibly poignant to the Indigenous struggle even if they were not written for that. Ultimately this is about being on the outside while finding things to connect with. For me it’s this music. It’s the style of drawing for me at that time. I’ve been able to revisit the comic style that I abandoned in college at the behest of a professor. This work has been incredible to create for me for so many reasons! More to come!

To those who closed their eyes, thinking they'd be better off
To those who felt that the gods kept them from getting out
To spite as
To clothes out
To those stuck
As nails hammer in
Just keep screaming out
I'm still not dead
I'm still not dead
-dont bury me...i'm still not dead, the riverboat gamblers

Forty years ago, singer of the Sex Pistols Johnny Rotten said “I wanna be anarchy” and thus punk rock was born. Punk was not just music, but a way of life. A rebellion against the status quo.
Today, choreographer Paula Rosolen questions what now remains of ‘punk’; the visual language of which increasingly found and finds its way into the fashion world and mainstream culture. It playfully examines its roots in specific dance moves and makes unexpected connections with simultaneous developments in postmodern dance.

This new Fuming Mouth record is indubitably AOTY material.
I’ve seen their name thrown around in the past on tours with Vein and similar artists but never actually checked them out until the first single for this record dropped.
Many thanks to @901vinylcollective for the initial recommendation on this group! I can always count on Tom And Kaci for their great music tastes.
The Grand Descent truly has something for all fans of heavy music. It’s a thrashy, blastbeaty, doom and gloom, breakdown filled nightmare that cuts to the bone. There are components of death metal, hardcore, thrash metal, and even some tinges of black metal to be found here.
The Grand Descent is the “renaissance man” album of 2019.
Give this record your time! Check it out! Buy a copy! You won’t be sorry.
