MASTERCLASS 📚 // We have been so lucky with the experiences (and buns!) that sharing our Bun Club journey has presented us with and this weekend was the icing (cross) on the cake (bun). Belair bakery @banana_boogie have supported our plight to search for the perfect HXB since we started sharing our little club with Adelaide so when their baker Jase invited us to come into his kitchen and see just how their famous hot cross buns are made from start to finish, we could not refuse! From soaked fruit to the final glaze when fresh out the oven, we got to see the pro hand roll and hand pipe the crosses before giving it a go ourselves. But it was so much more than just chatting buns (BB have an award winning vanilla slice that you all need to try!), Jase and his team are so well versed in what it means to run a family business and keep up with the ebb and flow of the baking world. These guys work hard and every success they enjoy is so well deserved. Plus, if @shitadelaide is praising your hot cross donuts and not mocking them, well you're South Australian royalty, right?! Check out our Banana Boogie highlights to see all the action from our masterclass and please do go see the team and their amazing goodies in-store. People come from far and wide to get their hands on the hot cross donuts alone and they sell out of many of their popular treats by about 10am.
Stay tuned, we will have our official review of the BB HXB in coming days!
Thank you a million times over to Jase and all the staff at BB for having us in today it was a real treat and a highlight for this little club of ours!

HXB ICECREAM 🍧 // It's no secret that we at Bun Club are utterly writhing with excitement at the early arrival of our beloved hot cross bun in supermarkets, but we did not expect that Woolies would release an ice-cream inspired by our favourite Easter treat only two days into the year. So how has this foray into bun inspired desserts fared?
First up, it makes complete sense to release this limited edition icecream so early on in the bun season, considering Adelaide is finally experiencing summer. On paper, a great way to commence the bun consumption without having a toasty treat. If you've ever enjoyed rum and raisin icecream let's say you'll probably be okay with how this tastes. For the more fussy bun-noissuer, however, the flavours just don't hit the mark. It's difficult to pin point any spice as such and honestly tastes a whole lot like the Coles Christmas Pudding icecream with raisins added. Bun Club feel this product is a case of Christmas mutton dressed as Easter lamb.
We will be waiting to see if there is a more engaging effort in 2019!

IT'S BUN MONTH! ☄️ // 🎶 It's the most wonderful time of the year 🎶 look, we do love Christmas at Bun Club and all the festive times ahead (not to mention the mince pies) but we all know what December REALLY means..... FLEURIEU FLASHBACK 🛤 // After the unexpected (but surprisingly tasty) Bunnings stop on Bun Club’s ‘Bun Day Out’ we were on our way through the beautiful Willunga hills to our first stop, Home Grain Bakery at Mt Compass. Our first six pack of the day was literally bursting out of the bag, these buns are so generous in size that they don’t fit in a regular six pack tray! A sourdough bun that’s crisp on the outside and probably best eaten toasted with butter to add a little softness. These subtly spiced buns contain local fruit and honey, so you can feel good about supporting SA businesses. Available at Aldinga, McLaren Flat, Mt Compass and Middleton. P.S. We have a little something else in store for these buns over the weekend so watch this space! #bunclub#bunclubadl #hxbs#hotcrossbun#notimeforfruitlessbuns#hotcrossbuns #fortheloveofthehxb#adelaideeats#bakedgoods#idontwantnoneunlessyouvegotbunshon#homegrainbakery#mtcompass
RED DOOR ❤️🚪// Red Door Bakery is a neighbourhood institution that truly has something for everyone. It’s not uncommon to see hi-vis wearing tradies, toddler wrangling parent groups, suited corporate types and local retirees all sipping coffee and wiping pastry flakes from their mouths at either of these neighbourhood gems! As someone who’s tried pretty much everything on the counter, I can confidently say there isn’t a dud to be had - and the Hot Cross Buns are no exception! Perfectly formed sourdough globes are chewy on the outside and soft on the inside. The spice mix isn’t overly sweet and works in harmony with the fruit, which includes not just sultanas but cranberries as well. (Oh and they’re vegan too!) When dining in you’ll receive a generous disc of good quality butter, which Bun Club highly rates because we all know that a bun is only as good as the butter you put on it! Available at both locations, Croydon and Goodwood. @reddoorbakery#bunclub#bunclubadl #hxbs#hotcrossbun#notimeforfruitlessbuns#hotcrossbuns #fortheloveofthehxb#adelaideeats#bakedgoods#idontwantnoneunlessyouvegotbunshon#reddoorbakery#vegan#veganeats #adelaideveganeats#queenstreetcroydon#goodwoodroad
