😀 "You can't balance your hormones, if your life isn't balanced" I probably repeat this to patients daily who ask "Why aren't my hormone balanced?" For me balance is about creating time for the things I must do as well as the things I like to do. . Emotional balance is key. I have an amazing support system around me. Loving, understanding family, two wonderful children and network of friends that make me feel cared and loved. A recent addition and surprise that has filled my heart with more joy and peace. Yes a new puppy! jk. . I use yoga, meditation, prayer and music to reconnect with my inner spirit and quiet time to feel the gratitude for all that I have. I also dance my heart out in the kitchen or in a Zumba class like no-one's watching. I schedule these in weekly and put in on my calendar. Self-care needs to be on our list daily. As a full-time working mom, it's easy to be last on the list and take care of everyone else first. Prioritize YOU. Put your own oxygen mask on FIRST. Go schedule that massage or acupuncture session, maybe even a sauna or spa day. Get your hair done and enjoy the scalp massage from the shampooing (Is that the best?) Choose to eat well, walk bare foot on the sand or grass, take a break during lunch to go outside and look at the sky and trees, take a salsa class or hot yoga sculpt. Try a new healthy restaurant, grab a cookbook and make a healthy nutritious meal with lots of color. Go watch a comedy show. Netflix Russel Peters or Maz Jobrani and laugh with me (they're my favourite). Try something new. Get outside your comfort zone. Did you know that if you see the word "fragrance" in the ingredients list, that one word can hide over 300 chemicals, most of which are known hormone disruptors? More salt for topping (optional)

Method👇
Preheat oven to 350. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until a cookie dough forms, fold in chopped chocolate. Place in a pan lined with parchment paper, bake for 20 mins or so. Top with sea salt if desired.

Myself and a good friend were talking about how we're more obsessed with knowing whether we ovulated or not, as opposed to when our period is coming.

Why I am so obsessed about ovulation? Well firstly it says a lot about my health and whether I'm making enough progesterone to ovulate, secondly I really would love to be a mamma one day and so learning about my fertility now is super important to me.

Everyone is different, but signs that help me detect ovulation is on its way, is happening, and has passed, are the following: - Stretchy egg white mucus (for me this happens a few days before I ovulate). - I get really hungry, just like before my period. - I have the urge to go to the toilet more, and have this slight pressure feeling when I do urinate (a few days leading up to ovulation). - On a more intuitive note, I feel more self assured, sexy, sociable and frisky in the 5 days leading up to my ovulation date. - On the day of ovulation I get a dull ache/sharp pain which is totally bareable and doesn't affect my day to day life. Some months I notice it more and other months I barely notice it. This ache/pain actually has a name: Mittelschmerz. You might feel it for a few minutes or a few hours. You feel it because the egg has literally just ruptured from your ovary. -Bloated lower abdomen (in the couple of days leading up to and the day of ovulation). - Tracking my BBT (basal body temperature). This is a big one for me. I've been using this method since the beginning of the year and feel so much more in tune with my body. Basically, about a day after ovulation your BBT will go up (e.g from 36.30 to 36.60). This rise happens because the rupture of the egg kick starts the rise of progesterone. Progesterone raises BBT. If your temperature stays up/continues to climb the days after ovulation, then you can confirm that you did actually ovulate. I literally love this method and reaching for my thermometer is the first thing I do in the morning!

Green Banana Brownie Bites:
(Makes 7-8 small balls)
1.5 tbsp green banana flour
2.5 tbsp almond flour
1/2 scoop plant protein
1 tbsp cacao powder
1.5 tbsp date syrup, maple or honey
3 tbsp cashew butter
(Or any nut butter)
1 tbsp coconut oil

Directions: in a medium bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well. Refrigerate to harden for 10-15 minutes. Remove, stir in cacao nibs and roll into balls. Spoon a 2 tbsp of shredded coconut into a small bowl. Roll the balls in coconut to coat. Store in the fridge!

Had a real eye opener last night at baseball. My pants 👖were feeling snug. I know I definitely have booty gains, but they weren’t snug in just the booty. One thing that becomes more important with each baby  I have is...to sleep when they sleep. 
Most of the time it’s the only time you’ll get a rest. 
My mother-in-law gave me this little piece of advice when I had my first child. Being a mother of 14 herself, she knew I probably wouldn’t listen. 
There’s so much to get done in a day that when the little one is peaceful you think, now, I can get this and that done; which is great. Then comes nighttime, when the rest of the world is sleeping, and they determine this is their time to be awake😩 You tell yourself, tomorrow I’m going to take a nap, but you don’t because there’s work to be done.  As every mother knows, you can’t sleep when they’re awake. 😳
Coffee is always a friend, but you can’t drink too much; especially if you’re nursing. 
Eventually that 15 minute nap becomes a necessity!  The truth of the matter is that as a mom, sleep is NOT a big part of your life. 
If I can pass on a bit of wisdom.....
something will always need to be done, but in order to be better mothers we need rest. Every mother has to find her own balance of what works for her. 
The Lord knows it’s not everyday, but at some point you got to SLEEP WHEN THEY SLEEP. .
P.S. Yes, I’m writing all this while they’re asleep 😂 .

When you add regular intense workouts that put the body in a state of high stress on top of these, what do you get? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hint: stress + more stress doesn't = less stress.

Doing these types of workouts too much (I.e more that 1-2 times a week with good breaks in between) can make your brain think it's in danger, which can lead to lack of ovulation, late or missing periods and hormone imbalances. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What to do instead? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Weights/resistance based workouts (body weight, free or machine weights) can support balanced hormones. Mix this with yoga/pilates and walking and you've got a dream scenario. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Note: for women with high oestrogen, a sweat sesh or two per week can be great to help with detoxing the excess, but try to reach that aerobic state without smashing your bod. K?

Women are rarely educated on the 4th trimester. Educated on what your body is going through, how emotional you will be, etc.. it’s a rough stage. The lack of sleep makes it hard to recover from what your body went through. Not to mention,
round the clock breastfeeding, while barely keeping up feeding yourself.

Everyone talks about how hard it can be to have a newborn.. but no one talks about how hard it is to be a postpartum mom.

We see highlight reels of people enjoying their newborns, going on walks, living in bliss.

But in reality, that new mom is wearing a diaper or pad the size of a small boat. She can barely sit up in bed to feed her baby because she’s so sore and her lack is sleep from being up every 2 hrs makes her feel like she’s going psycho. Then there is being scared to even go to bathroom... but that’s a whole new topic.

Taking care of yourself postpartum is just as important as taking care of your newborn. Your body has been through so much and needs to be taken care of. In order to take care of your baby, you need to take care of you.

Find some time for yourself during your postpartum phase, get passed the mom guilt. Because without you getting the recovery you need, you won’t be a good mom. Ask for help, there is no shame in it, you need it. Not only for your physical self but your mental self.

The postpartum phase/4th trimester is no joke. It’s hard.. and if you are one of those moms who got through it in a breeze, then you are the exception and good for you girl!! If you have a friend, sister, cousin, etc, who just had a new baby.. reach out. Ask if you can come over, not to just see the baby but to help with whatever she needs.

It’s takes a village to raise children... sooner or later you need to ask for help. There is no better time then when you are in that newly postpartum stage.❤️
