This is the 5th time that Monsanto's unapproved GMO wheat has gone rogue... found growing in open fields in Washington this time, with potential to spread & contaminate our food supply. While the USDA claims there is no evidence of GMO wheat in our food supply, once grown in open field trials, the genes are released into the environment & can’t be recalled. GMO contamination is forever. Here's some GMO education 101:
Worthy of discussion is why, oh why is there so much concern (rightfully so!) by the U.S. government - a government that rubber stamps just about everything that comes across its desk? There are two discussion points here. FIRST: safety. Wheat is a staple of the American and European diets and GMO wheat, if approved, would be regularly eaten, likely multiple times a day, by most of the population. GMO corn and soy are buried in our food supply - found mostly in junk food and used for animal feed (not to mention ethanol and packaging) - most is not eaten directly by humans. But wheat is different. The U.S. Gov. doesn't require long term safety testing for any of the GMO foods in our food supply. A 90 day study conducted by a company with a conflict of interest (because it profits from the sale of the GMOs) is all that's required. This does not address long term chronic health effects. SECOND: trade problems. Our trade partners have many concerns about GMO safety and there is strong opposition to GMO wheat. If our wheat supply were to become contaminated with GMO wheat, our wheat export market would be in jeopardy. So there are both health and economic concerns.
This brings us to some food for thought... We live in a society where our health continues to decline, chronic illness runs rampant... our children included. If there is concern about the safety of GMO wheat, surely we need to have the same concerns about the other GMOs in our food supply - the ones which were approved without adequate safety testing... the ones that our government refuses to label which makes it hard to avoid them. Which is another reason we don’t eat them. That was today’s rant! #GMO#wheat#health#holistic#food#gmof

IS IT WORTH THE RISK? It might LOOK like your grandmother’s corn, but this GMO corn, which is widely found in processed foods across the U.S., has insecticide built into its DNA, and is Roundup Ready for your gastrointestinal pleasure. Neither the synthetic, built in Bt toxin insecticides, nor the glyphosate residue from the Roundup herbicides, can be washed off. Adjuvants in Roundup force it to be absorbed by the plant. Studies have found many health concerns. Much of the concern is long term chronic toxicity affecting liver and kidneys, but in studies on laboratory animals, Bt toxins are linked to immune system disturbances, intestinal damage, allergenicity and other health problems. And of course there is the glyphosate factor. Glyphosate is linked to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, has been linked to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease at ultra low levels and fertility harms to name only a few of the many concerns. Substantial equivalence is a farse.

To be certain you are not eating synthetic pesticides and GMO corn, it's best to buy organic foods that are also Non-GMO Project Verified if corn is an ingredient.
