I've been a mix of happy, disappointed, peaceful, uneasy, secure, overwhelmed, and so on lately. This could really overtake me and drag me down. .

emotionalhealth I’m going HARD after my stuff in this season and it’s difficult. Leaning in to my imperfections, my mistakes, the things I’ve been avoiding for awhile... it’s time.

I don’t share my story much here, about my personal life. It’s usually done on my personal account @melanieharris79, but I’m going to share a little more with you from time to time because I want others to know that they’re not alone. That we’re all walking through life the best we can and we can all learn, support, help, and love one another. This account is meant for health and wellness and I’ve realized that supporting emotions and mental health should play a bigger role. 💗

I’ve been struggling with infertility for over 3 years. 3 long years of supplements, various treatments, traveling 7 hours round trip more times than I can count to see my RE, 4 failed IUI’s, and now undergoing IVF. #infertilitysucks and in many ways, it’s taken over my life. I’ve realized that these years have slowly changed me. Each month, each failed treatment, each breakdown... It’s impacted my relationships, my business, and my belief in myself.

I have a long way to go, but I’ve started the SAVERS protocol from the #themiraclemorning. Have you heard of this? The six parts of the routine are - silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading, scribing.

The lack of belief in myself, the doubting, questioning... It’s the first thing I’m working on. So I’m grabbing my oil Believe and I’m meditating, saying my affirmations, and visualizing who I want to be each and every morning. I’m giving myself grace for the first time and boy is that new for me. 
The hard work has just begun, but I’ve taken the first step. 😭

emotionalhealth A child drew pictures at school of happy, sad, and mad faces. The teacher raised concerns for the child’s expression through drawing, in particular, of the sad and mad characters. The teacher mentioned it to the parents, concerned and hoping for some answers. The parents asked the child about the drawings, and why the teacher might be concerned... The child replied “I like to draw all of the emotions, not just the happy ones.” This child’s emotional literacy skills & emotional intelligence are so clear. Of course, we express concern when a child draws sad/mad things, but this child taught the parents and the teacher a lesson... that we should be able to talk about sadness and madness just as often as we do happiness. This teacher’s concern is a step in the right direction... recognition is so powerful! Many teachers and parents express feeling at a loss when it comes to teaching the skills of emotion management. 
We are always encouraged to “think happy thoughts” and “be happy”, without realizing we’re denying the very real truth of emotions. Tough emotions are a part of life, and while uncomfortable at times, are necessary to navigate. If we don’t draw these emotions when we’re young, or include them in the conversation, we are teaching children that they are not worthy of our attention. We need to teach our kids how to handle uncomfortable emotions.

At first, relaxing the eyes, face, and body to then reach a state where there are less conscious thoughts and more subconscious thoughts. This worked really well today. I felt my body reach multiple levels of relaxation and at the end of the session, I felt almost as though I woke up from a nap even though I was awake and aware the whole time. 🧪The cycle of abuse can take place in  ANY  relationship, no matter what type of relationship it is, regardless of gender identity, sexuality, age etc.
🧪What we find within an abusive relationship [physical and/or emotional], is that loops of the cycle unfold quicker + more frequently. What once took ‘a lot’ or ‘a long time’ to go from calm to anger, continues to get shorter, and shorter, and shorter
🧪Eventually, we can cycle through this loop quite speedily; it begins to feel inevitable, like a devastating + dangerous reflex. We may often find ourselves thinking ‘How did we get here? When did this happen?’
🧪Within a trauma bond, our brains become hooked on the highs + lows of the relationship. It isn’t just an emotional attachment, it’s neurochemical
🧪Some ingredients responsible for our attachment to the abuser are:
🔸Oxytocin (bonding, love)
🔸Endogenous Opioids (pleasure, pain, dependence, withdrawal)
🔸Corticotropin- Releasing Factor (stress, withdrawal)
🔸Dopamine (craving, wanting, reward)
🧪These interactions make for a toxic cocktail; making us feel scared, loved, shame, happy, guilt, hopeful + in need of safety
🧪The crux of the trauma bond for the abused is, when we seek out comfort + safety, we typically seek it from our abuser

🔹The cycle of abuse can be difficult to confront, particularly if it’s something we’ve experienced or are actively experiencing. If this is something that’s happening/suspect is happening for you, take this as the sign, the prompt, the validation, to Seek Out help. Get support. Talk to someone. Tell someone. I was talking with a friend today about contentment and the speed of life. It's always a temptation to compare our lives to those of other people, especially when it comes to age. "I don't have that degree..." "they bought a house and they're younger than me!" "I should be further along" "I should be making more money." Dang... when we give that up, and in a sense forgive ourselves for not being as far as we feel like we should have been by our current age...that's when we find contentment and more joy in the life we have. You're right where you should be. You're doing it. You're there. Such a good reminder that was today.

I had a choice to make. I could take my power back and take control of my thinking or let it get the better of me.🤺

I took my power back. I did some serious self talk and I even did some tapping to release the fear.🧘‍♀️

You feel alone in your pain. You think no one will understand you or nobody’s going through the same thing. So who could you possibly talk to about it? So you don’t. You keep everything to yourself. Which just turns you into a shaken up bottle of warm champagne. 
This is exactly how I used to feel when I was in the thick of my eating & mental disorders. I felt so alone I hid it for 10 years. 
No one should feel this way & I promise you are not alone. Voicing how you are feeling is healing in itself. I know that is hard to do when you think no one gets you & even more terrifying to do with a stranger but I am here to hold space for you as so many of you have done for me. You are seen and what you are going through is ok. Hard, but ok. You have emotions, that is ok. It will be ok, nothing is wrong with you. Just as there is nothing wrong with the champagne. It just needs to chill for bit. Ya know?

Eu não. 
Por isso é que quando me sinto tentada a dizer “tem calma, tem calma…” aos meus filhos, respiro fundo, penso duas vezes e não digo. 
Ainda me sai um “tem calma, tem calma…” ou outro, mas é cada vez mais raro, graças à pausa entre o instante em que alguma coisa acontece e o momento em que reajo. 
Coisas boas que a Mindfulness, ao longo dos anos, me tem vindo a dar e ajudado a alterar. 
Só isso.

Já te sentiste mais calmo só porque alguém te disse repetidamente para te acalmares? Eu não. I’m always thinking that things need to be done for everyone and for everything to work, but the biggest gift I can give myself and my children is teaching them to do certain tasks independently and letting them get on with it. They may need me to be always here for guidance, but they don’t need me every step of the way as a shadow. And I also need to get that balance right for my own self and clarity of mind.

Recently I’ve felt on the go - constantly - today I am giving myself a chance to pause and recharge. . .
