The view from upstairs in Pitzanger Manor, John Soane’s country pile. Looking out onto one of two fabulous Cedar of Lebanons planted by John Haverfield in 1800 is a reminder of how important it is to plant plant plant. Soppy I know but it breaks my heart seeing healthy happy trees torn down, especially in big cities.
Another huge table top prepared today, with help from the family. Two of these are off for festival hire as unique statement piece banquet tables. Made from a tree that had died so pleased to save and transform another giant for many more years of life #sustainablefurniture#cedaroflebanon#wiltshirelife
What a magical day! Hidcote Manor Garden is a famous Arts and Crafts garden, made c1905. Lawrence Johnston was a keen plantsman with a strong sense of artistic composition. Yew, holly and beech hedges are used to define a series of garden rooms. One room is occupied by a simple circular pool. Others have a character deriving from inspired planting. The standard of building craftsmanship is high and the number of plants which have the name 'Hidcote' point to Johnston's expertise.
