Whenever I read stories about catfish I flip back-and-forth between heartbreak and bewilderment. On one hand, it’s infinitely sad that someone’s so lonely they develop feelings for someone they’d never met. On the other hand, WTF?! Although at least with a catfish there’s someone actively trying to foster your delusion. Jeez, we’ve all had relationships where we pretended someone wasn’t who they actually were. They were so hot we pretended they weren’t shallow. They were so funny we pretended they weren’t dysfunctional. They were so wonderful we pretended they also had great taste in partners and were definitely into us 😉
Anyway, say hello to nature’s own catfish, the Bee Orchid! The flower looks like a female bee and even emits lady pheromones to attract male bees. It’s kinda like when you meet someone that’s wearing your exes perfume.
The male bee lands, engages in what’s called ‘pseudocopulation’ (we’ve all done that at least once when we were smashed), picks up some pollen and then transfers it to another flower.
The orchid literally depends on catfishing for sexual reproduction. And just look at that shit-eating grin - it fully knows it’s taking the piss. It’s the goddam icon for online trolls.

One of my all time favorites.
"Examples of memes are tunes, ideas, catch-phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches. Just as genes propagate themselves in the gene pool by leaping from body to body via sperms or eggs, so memes propagate themselves in the meme pool by leaping from brain to brain via a process which, in the broad sense, can be called imitation."
"Let us understand what our own selfish genes are up to, because we may then at least have the chance to upset their designs, something that no other species has ever aspired to do."
today we have moved on to a new topic in biology which is plants ! we are now studying them in more detail because we have finished our exams, which means we can take more time on experiments, which i love :)
